Guerrero Drives in Five as Lions Outslug New River CC in Myrtle Beach
Yostin Guerrero Solano powered Penn State Schuylkill with five RBIs as the Lions secured a 9–7 win over New River CC.
Penn State Schuylkill battled through a back-and-forth contest to earn the victory Sunday afternoon, using a big third inning and timely late offense to hold off New River CC.
The Lions struck first in the opening inning when Roman Cieless launched a solo home run to left field, giving Schuylkill an early lead. New River answered with two runs in the bottom half to briefly take control.
Schuylkill erupted in the third inning with a five-run rally to swing momentum back in its favor. Yostin Guerrero Solano delivered the biggest blow of the frame, lining a bases-clearing single to score three runs. Owen Shoop and Blake Deiter followed with RBI singles to extend the lead.
New River continued to pressure the Lions offensively, collecting 14 hits in the game and trimming the lead to 7–6 after five innings. Schuylkill responded again in the sixth inning when Cieless drove in a run with an infield single before Guerrero added two more RBIs with another clutch hit to push the lead to 9–6.
On the mound, Joey Ruggiero earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, while Aidan Barner closed the final two innings with four strikeouts to secure the save.
New River pushed across a run in the seventh inning but Barner finished the job, preserving the Lions' second spring break victory in Myrtle Beach.
Game two of the day against Penn State DuBois was started but later delayed due to weather and ultimately postponed, with the game scheduled to be resumed at a later date.
