Lions Drop Pair at York to Split PSUAC Series

Penn State Schuylkill wrapped up a four-game PSUAC series with Penn State York on Sunday, dropping both ends of the doubleheader after sweeping the first two games at home the day prior. The Lions generated offense throughout the day but York capitalized on key moments to secure the two victories.
In game one, Schuylkill battled in a back-and-forth contest before York earned a 10-8 win. The Lions opened the scoring when Andrew Klotz stole home in the first inning. Roman Cieless tied the game in the third with an RBI double that brought in Conner Licklider. Schuylkill added two runs in the fourth on a wild pitch and a bunt single by Klotz.
The Lions produced their biggest inning in the fifth, scoring three runs. Dan Zimmerman delivered a triple to score Joey Ruggiero, Yostin Guerrero Solano reached on an error to bring home Brandon Pupek, and Klotz added another RBI single. York responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and held on late despite Schuylkill plating another run in the sixth.
In game two, Schuylkill jumped out early with two runs in the first inning when Roman Cieless singled to score Klotz and Joey Ruggiero followed with an RBI single. The Lions added another run in the third when Tyler Shuey drove in Ruggiero. York answered with two runs in the third and later added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 6-3 victory.
Joey Ruggiero paced the Lions offensively in game two with three hits, including a double and an RBI, while Yostin Guerrero Solano added two hits.
On the mound, Alex Fantaskey started game two and struck out four across four innings, allowing three earned runs. Aidan Barner worked two innings of relief and allowed two runs while keeping York from pulling away further.
Schuylkill combined for 19 hits and 11 runs across the doubleheader but ultimately came up short as York secured the split in the four-game PSUAC series.
