Brown Throws 5 Touchdowns as Schuylkill Splits Saturday
Penn State Schuylkill answered a tough opener with a dominant 35-0 shutout of Marywood, closing the day with five touchdowns and a defense that forced two interceptions.
Penn State Schuylkill flag football started their Saturday with a split in Aston, dropping the first game to Neumann, 25-6, before bouncing back in emphatic fashion with a 35-0 shutout of Marywood.
Against Neumann, Schuylkill battled throughout and showed flashes on both sides of the ball despite the final score. After falling behind 13-0 at the half, the Lions broke through in the third quarter when Abree Brown connected with Kenzie Staller for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 13-6. Brown threw for 169 yards on 21-of-31 passing, with Kay Lee Morgan leading the receiving corps with nine catches for 43 yards, while Miranda Morstatt added four receptions for 38 yards and also made a big impact defensively with an interception return of 22 yards. Amanda Burns and Makayla Hill each recorded six tackles, while Sierra Wishnefsky contributed four tackles and two sacks as the defense continued to fight and create momentum-changing plays.
Schuylkill responded in a big way in game two, controlling Marywood from the opening possession in a 35-0 victory. The Lions scored early and often, putting up 14 points in the first quarter, 14 more in the second, and another touchdown in the third to seal the shutout. Brown led the offense with 205 passing yards and four touchdown passes while also adding 41 rushing yards. Morstatt had a huge all-around game with five catches for 87 yards, two interceptions, and a 43-yard interception return total, while Amanda Burns, Makayla Hill, Kenzie Staller, and Kay Lee Morgan all hauled in touchdown receptions. Hill also added a sack on defense, and the Lions held Marywood to just 101 total yards while forcing two interceptions and recording two sacks.
