Lions Battle Through ECAC Trimatch in Arlington
Penn State Schuylkill competed in two ECAC conference matchups Sunday in Arlington, VA, facing Marymount and Eastern.
The Penn State Schuylkill flag football team returned to action Sunday for an ECAC conference trimatch at Marymount University, taking on Marymount in the opener before closing the day against Eastern University.
Game 1 – Marymount 49, Penn State Schuylkill 0
Schuylkill opened the day against Marymount, who struck early and continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Despite the result, the Lions showed resilience defensively and continued to battle throughout the four quarters. Makayla Hill led the defensive effort with six tackles, while Miranda Morstatt and Sierra Wishnefsky each added two tackles to help limit Marymount possessions.
Quarterback Abree Brown completed 10-of-24 passes for 86 yards, distributing the ball to multiple receivers. Kay Lee Morgan led the receiving corps with three receptions for 25 yards, while Kenzie Staller added two catches for 20 yards. Makenzie Wechsler handled punting duties, recording six punts for 119 yards while helping the Lions flip field position.
Game 2 – Eastern 41, Penn State Schuylkill 6
The Lions regrouped in the second game and found the end zone against Eastern. Abree Brown connected with Miranda Morstatt for a touchdown reception in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 14–6 and giving Schuylkill a key offensive highlight.
Brown finished 11-of-22 passing for 129 yards and one touchdown, while Kay Lee Morgan had a standout game with four receptions for 72 yards, including a long catch of 41 yards. Morstatt added two receptions for 24 yards and the team's touchdown, while Mikayla Johnson contributed three catches for 23 yards.
Defensively, the Lions continued to compete with several players making key stops. Sierra Wishnefsky recorded four tackles and two pass breakups, Makayla Hill added three tackles, and Avagale Jones registered three tackles and a sack for seven yards to highlight the defensive effort.
Looking Ahead
Although the results did not fall their way, the Lions continued to show growth and competitiveness against ECAC conference opponents. Schuylkill will look to build on the experience gained during the Arlington trip as the program continues with more games on Wednesday night at home versus Chestnut Hill and Holy Family at Blue Mountain High School.
