Abree Brown accounted for three total touchdowns to lead Penn State Schuylkill to a 33-14 win over Centenary before the Lions fell to Immaculata, 27-6, Thursday night in Schuylkill Haven.
Game 1: Penn State Schuylkill 33, Centenary 14
Penn State Schuylkill wasted no time setting the tone in the opener. After Miranda Morstatt intercepted Centenary quarterback Kezia Feaster on the game's second play, the Lions capitalized immediately. Quarterback Abree Brown punched in a 10-yard rushing touchdown to give Schuylkill an early lead.
The Lions' defense continued to dominate the first half, repeatedly pushing Centenary backward with tackles for loss and forcing multiple turnovers.
Late in the second quarter, Schuylkill extended the lead when Brown connected with Miranda Morstatt on a 5-yard touchdown pass with just 10 seconds remaining before halftime. On the very next Centenary possession, Mikayla Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown, giving the Lions a commanding 26-0 halftime advantage.
Schuylkill opened the second half with another big drive as Brown connected with Kay Lee Morgan for a 24-yard gain, then later found Morstatt for a 19-yard completion to move deep into Centenary territory. The Lions eventually added another score to stretch the lead to 33-0 midway through the third quarter.
Centenary broke through late in the third quarter on a rushing touchdown by Feaster and added another score late in the fourth, but the Lions' early dominance secured the 33-14 victory.
