Schuylkill Men Fall to Mont Alto in High-Scoring Matchup, 83-61
A dominant second-half surge from Mont Alto handed Penn State Schuylkill a tough road loss despite strong performances from the bench.
Penn State Schuylkill men's basketball couldn't keep pace with Penn State Mont Alto's efficient shooting, falling 83-61 in conference play. The Lions jumped to an early lead but struggled to contain Mont Alto's scoring runs, particularly in the paint where Mont Alto posted 56 points.
Schuylkill trailed by 10 at halftime and faced a 23-point deficit early in the second half. Mont Alto's Veron Talla (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Jonathan Pang (19 points) spearheaded the offensive attack, shooting 52.4% from the field.
Schuylkill's bench kept the game competitive, led by Amir Gray's 15 points and Lee Newton's seven points, five rebounds, and key defensive plays. However, turnovers and Mont Alto's 33 points off those mistakes sealed the Lions' fate.
Schuylkill shot 33.9% from the floor, with Antwuan Byrd and Hadir Boswell combining for 17 points. Despite forcing 18 turnovers, the Lions couldn't overcome Mont Alto's size and second-chance opportunities.
