Gray’s 26 Sparks Second-Half Comeback at New Kensington
Penn State Schuylkill erased a double-digit deficit with a huge second half to earn a road win.
Penn State Schuylkill men's basketball stormed back from a slow start to knock off Penn State New Kensington 72–66 on Friday night, using a dominant second half to grab a nonconference road victory. Trailing 42–31 at the break and by as many as 14 early in the second half, the Lions locked in defensively and outscored New Kensington 41–24 over the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Junior guard Amir Gray led the charge with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting, adding 9 rebounds and several key buckets during the comeback push. It marked Gray's fifth 20+ point game of the season, and he has now scored in double figures in every game so far this year, continuing his torrid offensive pace.
Devin Adams Jr. finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, hitting three triples and steadying the offense down the stretch. Caden Mitchell turned in a complete performance with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Hadir Boswell chipped in 10 points and a team-best 8 boards inside.
Schuylkill shot 42.9 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three, while holding New Kensington to just 25.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Lions took better care of the ball in the second half, turned key stops into transition opportunities, and got timely free throws and late-game execution to close it out.
Penn State Schuylkill now sits at 3–6 overall and 1–3 in PSUAC play. The Lions are back in action on Wednesday with a road nonconference matchup at Penn State Brandywine.
