Lions Pour in 103 in PSUAC Win Over Shenango
Schuylkill shot 57.5% from the field and finished with 18 assists in the victory.
Penn State Schuylkill put together one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season Friday night, defeating Penn State Shenango 103–88 in PSUAC action in Schuylkill Haven.
The Lions set the tone immediately with defense turning into offense. After forcing a turnover on Shenango's first possession, Devin Adams Jr. came up with a steal and scored the first basket of the night, sparking an early run. Schuylkill continued to generate points off takeaways throughout the opening stretch—Hadir Boswell, Lee Newton, and Amir Gray each recorded early steals as the Lions jumped ahead 12–2 in the first two minutes. Adams Jr. scored nine quick points in that opening burst, including a three-pointer off a Boswell assist and a pair of free throws, helping Schuylkill seize control.
Schuylkill's pace and ball movement stayed consistent the rest of the half, stretching the margin to 20–5 before Shenango answered. The Lions got contributions from the bench during a key mid-half stretch—Trey Gould knocked down a jumper, Bryce Hensley added a bucket, and Caden Mitchell buried a three as the lead grew. Issac Lane capped another strong sequence by picking a pocket for a steal and finishing a layup to push the advantage to 47–23 late in the half. Shenango hit a late three at the buzzer, but Schuylkill still carried a 47–30 lead into the break.
The Lions opened the second half with more energy, as Dekari Harrell drilled a three on the first possession (assist Adams Jr.), and the offense kept rolling. Lee Newton finished a dunk off an Adams Jr. dime, and Gray knocked down multiple three-pointers during the half as Schuylkill maintained its cushion. Shenango made several pushes behind hot perimeter shooting, but each time, the Lions answered—Boswell attacked the rim, Harrell hit timely jumpers, and Schuylkill continued to share the ball and finish possessions.
Amir Gray led the Lions with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting, adding eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a late highlight dunk off a Bryce Hensley steal in the final minute. Devin Adams Jr. posted a strong all-around line with 22 points and seven assists, while Lee Newton was perfect from the field (5-for-5) for 12 points. Hadir Boswell added 14 points and went 4-for-4 at the line, and Issac Lane chipped in 9 points as Schuylkill placed four players in double figures.
Next up, the Lions are back on the floor tomorrow at 12:00 PM vs. Penn State Greater Allegheny in another PSUAC matchup. The game will follow a special homecoming event on campus: the first-ever Penn State Schuylkill Alumni Basketball Game at 10:00 AM, with 20+ former Lion players expected to participate, enjoy a luncheon at the café, and return for the men's tipoff at noon.
