Gray Drops 24 as Lions Pour In 54 After Halftime in 87–80 Battle
Penn State Schuylkill’s offense caught fire in the second half, but the Lions’ comeback bid came up just short Saturday afternoon.
Penn State Schuylkill men's basketball put together an explosive second-half response on Saturday, outscoring Penn State Mont Alto 54-45 after the break, but ultimately fell 87-80 in a hard-fought PSUAC matchup in Schuylkill Haven.
Mont Alto came out sharp early, building a 42-26 halftime advantage behind efficient shooting and consistent pressure on the glass. Schuylkill didn't fold — instead, the Lions flipped the game's energy coming out of the locker room and turned the second half into a track meet.
Led by Amir Gray, Schuylkill attacked the rim, got to the free throw line, and chipped away possession by possession. Gray finished with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds, repeatedly answering Mont Alto runs and keeping the Lions within striking distance. Bryce Hensley gave Schuylkill a major boost off the bench, scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting while adding seven rebounds and a block, providing physicality and a steady interior presence during the second-half surge.
Issac Lane added 10 points and five rebounds, while Lee Newton chipped in eight points and Devin Adams Jr. contributed eight points with four steals and a block, helping ignite transition chances and momentum swings. Dekari Harrell (7 points) and Hadir Boswell (5 points) provided important minutes as the Lions continued to battle on both ends.
Schuylkill's comeback push made it a game late, fueled by toughness at the free throw line (20 made) and a relentless second-half tempo, but Mont Alto was able to hit timely shots and convert at the stripe down the stretch to hold on.
Even in the loss, the Lions showed exactly who they are — resilient, dangerous when they find rhythm, and capable of making anyone uncomfortable for 40 minutes.
