Hensley & Lane Combine for 44 as Lions Battle to the Buzzer on Youth Night
Bryce Hensley went 11-for-16 for 22 points as Schuylkill rallied late and had the tying look at the horn.
Penn State Schuylkill put together a strong effort in front of a packed house for the annual Youth Night, but came up just short in an 82–79 loss to Penn State Lehigh Valley on Thursday evening in Schuylkill Haven.
The night started with great energy in the gym and on the floor. After Lehigh Valley jumped out early, Schuylkill settled in behind the play of Bryce Hensley and Issac Lane, who consistently attacked the paint and generated quality looks. Hensley was efficient all night, finishing with 22 points (11-16 FG) and 8 rebounds, while Lane matched him with 22 points and 8 boards, creating a steady inside presence that kept the Lions within striking distance throughout the first half.
Despite Schuylkill shooting 45.7% from the field, Lehigh Valley's work on the glass proved to be the difference over 40 minutes. The visitors finished with a 42–32 rebounding edge, including 20 offensive rebounds, creating extra possessions and second-chance opportunities that helped them carry a 45–40 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Schuylkill continued to battle and made multiple pushes. Amir Gray impacted the game in several ways, recording 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Hadir Boswell provided a big spark off the bench with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including a momentum dunk that lifted the crowd. The Lions also got key minutes from role players, but a tough night from three (2-for-15) made it harder to fully flip the game when Lehigh Valley stretched the margin.
Lehigh Valley's balanced scoring kept pressure on the Lions down the stretch, led by Kyle John (17 points, 7 rebounds), Emmanuel Kenyi (15 points), Jacob Schuebel (12 points, 10 rebounds), and CamRon Black (13 points, three 3's). With just under nine minutes left, the Lions trailed 71–58, but they responded with their best stretch of the game—forcing turnovers, getting stops, and scoring in transition and at the rim to close the gap possession by possession.
Schuylkill's late surge made it a one-possession game in the final minute, and after a defensive stop, the Lions had a chance at the end. Down 82–79, Schuylkill got the tying look at the buzzer, but the shot rimmed out, sealing the narrow defeat.
