Lions Battle Through Road Test at Division II Kutztown
Lions shoot 90.9% at the line but can’t overcome early turnovers at Kutztown.
Penn State Schuylkill women's basketball ran into a deep, hot-shooting Division II Kutztown squad on Wednesday evening, dropping a 105–36 decision in nonconference play at Keystone Arena. The Golden Bears used pressure defense and transition offense to build a 57–10 halftime lead, while Schuylkill struggled to find a rhythm offensively against their length and depth.
Serena Jones led the Lions with 8 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds, attacking the paint and knocking down all four of her free throws. Alli Crockett added 7 points and 4 rebounds, also going a perfect 3-for-3 from the stripe. Katelyn Otto chipped in 6 points, including a late three, while Mikayla Johnson finished with 5 points and a team-high 6 rebounds. Ava Novak provided balance off the bench with 4 points, 3 boards and 2 assists as Schuylkill converted 10-of-11 free throws (90.9%) on the night.
Despite forcing Kutztown into just six turnovers, the Lions' own 26 giveaways and the Golden Bears' 55.1% shooting proved too much to overcome. Schuylkill (2–2) will look to bounce back quickly as they return home to PSUAC action on Friday, hosting Penn State DuBois at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m.
