Novak, Jones Lead Lions to Dominant Road Win
Balanced scoring and stingy defense powered Penn State Schuylkill to a convincing PSUAC victory.
Penn State Schuylkill women's basketball picked up an important conference road win on Friday night, rolling past Penn State New Kensington 65–37 to move to 3–5 overall and 1–3 in PSUAC play. The Lions jumped out to a 20–12 lead after the first quarter and clamped down defensively from there, holding New Kensington to just five points in the second period and 22.8 percent shooting for the game.
Ava Novak fueled the offense with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, hitting four three-pointers and controlling the tempo throughout. Serena Jones was a force inside with 18 points and 9 boards, while Mikayla Johnson provided 14 points and 3 assists, including a pair of threes that stretched the lead early.
Schuylkill dominated the glass 45–33, with Novak, Jones, and Madison Cooper combining for 25 rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities. Thirteen team assists and balanced scoring helped the Lions steadily pull away, outscoring New Kensington in every quarter and never allowing the hosts to mount a serious comeback.
Penn State Schuylkill (3–5, 1–3 PSUAC) now steps out of conference play with a quick turnaround, traveling to Penn College tomorrow for a nonconference matchup at noon.
