Otto’s 20 Leads Late Push as Lions Battle Mont Alto
Penn State Schuylkill showed grit and fight, cutting a big deficit and making it a game late.
Penn State Schuylkill women's basketball battled from the opening tip and nearly erased an early hole, but ultimately fell 49-40 to Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday morning in PSUAC action at home.
Mont Alto jumped out quickly and controlled the first quarter, holding Schuylkill scoreless from the field and taking an 11-3 lead after ten minutes. The Lions responded with a huge second-quarter swing, locking in defensively and finding rhythm offensively to outscore Mont Alto 15-13 in the frame. By halftime, Schuylkill had trimmed the deficit to 24-18 and completely changed the energy of the game.
The Lions kept that momentum rolling after the break. Schuylkill continued to grind on the defensive end and chipped away possession by possession in the third quarter, eventually pulling even at 30-30 late in the period after a run that included timely buckets from Katelyn Otto and key contributions around the glass. Schuylkill even briefly took the lead, showing the composure and toughness that has defined the group's progress.
In the fourth, Mont Alto made the final push, hitting late shots to regain separation, while the Lions continued to battle to the final horn. Schuylkill forced tough looks, competed on every rebound, and kept working through pressure—but couldn't quite get over the hump down the stretch. Even in the closing moments, the Lions kept fighting, with Otto knocking down a three at the buzzer to cap the effort.
