Penn State Schuylkill men's volleyball opened the 2026 season Wednesday night against Eastern University, marking the program's third season in existence under head coach Nick Marrongelle. While the Lions fell in straight sets (14-25, 11-25, 13-25), the continued growth of the program was clear throughout the match, highlighted by big swings, improved chemistry, and a noticeable jump in overall skill.
Schuylkill was led offensively by Reno Plesnarski with 7 kills, while Jeremiah Miller added 5 kills. Austin Fries chipped in 3 kills, and Bryce Hensley posted an all-around impact performance with 2 kills and 4 total blocks (3 solo, 1 assist). At setter, Kadre Williams paced the Lions with 17 assists, continuing to build rhythm with a developing attack.
Despite facing an efficient Eastern lineup that hit .540 for the match, Penn State Schuylkill showed flashes of what could be a high-upside season, particularly as the roster continues to gain match experience and cohesion.
The Lions return to action Friday at home as they host Valley Forge at 6:00 PM.
